Cleaning Greener: Getting Started
So, you've decided to try to clean a little greener. Where do you start?
First up, you'll want to avoid certain products such as air fresheners (including those handy plug-in types and even some candles), oven cleaners and other conventional products which may contain harmful components. Some others that should be on your watch list include dishwasher detergent, carpet shampoo and toilet, tub and tile cleaners.
Next, try to substitute your current products with some green ones. Ask us about our own line of earth-friendly products from NW Jan-San, which we will gladly deliver as part of your cleaning service. But if you don't mind a trip to the store, there are several brands readily available now such as Method, Seventh Generation and good ol' Simple Green.
Once you've done that, you might feel up to making your own cleaning concoctions from really natural, time-tested goodies like vinegar, baking soda and the like. Here's a great article from care2 with lots of ideas!
Don't forget to replace your disposable wipes, sponges and paper towels with eco-friendly micro-fiber cloths.
